WASHINGTON and LAS VEGASApril 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Today, the Professional Fighters League announced the formation of the world’s only mixed martial arts (MMA) league.  The new league will debut in January 2018 with a $10 million prize pool across seven weight classes.  The Professional Fighters League purchased the fighting operations and event infrastructure of the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) earlier this year.

Russ Ramsey, Executive Chairman, Professional Fighters League, described the new league as a transformative moment for MMA: “The PFN brings a proven sports format that fans love and athletes respect to MMA for the first time. Featuring a regular season, post-season, and championship structure, the launch of the Professional Fighters League continues the evolution of MMA into a professional, mass-market, prime-time sport for a global audience.”

NEW LEAGUE FOR MMA FIGHTERS WORLDWIDE

The new league is open to all professional MMA fighters worldwide.  Fighters will participate in one of seven weight classes and compete in regularly scheduled fights throughout a season.  At the end of the regular season, fighters with the best records will advance to a “win-or-go-home” post-season playoff tournament.  Each tournament winner in the seven weight classes will be named the PFN season champion and collect a $1 million cash prize. An additional $3 million will be shared between other regular season and playoff competitors.

MMA QUICKSTART

The PFN format gives every fighter an equal and fair shot, and provides fans the excitement and transparency of a true sport.

Ray Sefo, President, Fighting Operations, added: “All fighters deserve to control their own destiny, to win or lose on their own merits.  There are thousands of professional MMA fighters, and yet in the entire history of the sport, only a handful of these athletes have ever fought for $1 million.  We are proud to offer that opportunity to every fighter in the Professional Fighters League.”

The new league will also deliver a more accessible, engaging and innovative experience for new and current fans of MMA.

Carlos Silva, President, Event Production and Business Operations, Professional Fighters League said: “Our experience and product – in the arena, on TV, and through digital – will connect MMA fans to our fighters and the sport they love in unique and innovative ways.  Over the coming months we’ll be announcing more details on how we’re transforming the MMA experience for fighters and fans.”

Professional MMA athletes interested in information about joining the league should contact Ray Sefo at the email provided below.

Bellator’s latest fight card features Eduardo Dantas defending his title against Darrion Caldwell in Bellator 184. This bout will be held at Thackerville Ok. on October 6, 2017.

Bellator MMA bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas (20-4 MMA, 10-1 BMMA) will look for the third consecutive defense of his title later this year when he meets Darrion Caldwell (10-1 MMA, 7-1 BMMA).

FAT SHREDDER KICKBOXING

Bellator officials today announced the bout will headline an Oct. 6 event, expected to serve as Bellator 184, at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Okla.

Eduardo Dantas currently sits at No. 6 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA bantamweight rankings, while Caldwell checks in at No. 15.

Additionally, featherweight Emmanuel Sanchez (15-3 MMA, 7-2 BMMA) meets former champ Daniel Straus (24-7 MMA, 11-4 BMMA) in a featherweight affair.

Dantas enters the fight on a four-fight win streak that includes decision wins over Leandro Higo, Joe Warren, Marcos Galvao and Mike Richman. He now meets Caldwell, who in July suffered the lone loss to date of his professional career to Joe Taimanglo but in December avenged that result.

George St-Pierre will most likely challenge Conor McGregor with win vs Michael Bisping

George St-Pierre the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion at one time, was rumored to be in the running for a super fight with Conor McGregor back when “Notorious” was fooling around in the 170-pound division.

GEORGE ST-PIERRE CONOR MCGREGOR SUPERFIGHT?

GEORGE ST-PIERRE

While that potential pay-per-view (PPV) payday may have gone by the wayside as the power-punching Irishman gears up for his first title defense. He may end up on the receiving end of a French-Canadian call out. Assuming “Rush” can win his return fight against Michael Bisping.

This is  according to training partner and UFC lightweight Olivier Aubin-Mercier.

I think what will be probable if he has a win over Michael Bisping . That he will call out Conor after,” Aubin-Mercier told TSN (via Irish Mirror).  That’s what I would do. I think for the UFC, it’s a really smart fight to do. It’s a win-win for them.  This could end up being another huge payday for Conor McGregor and St-Pierre.

GEORGE ST-PIERRE

And St-Pierre could always go down to 155 pounds (his words).

Nome of this matters if “Rush” is unable to get past reigning UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping when they go to war in the UFC 205 main event, scheduled for this November in New York City (details).

I think what would be possible is if he called out Conor McGregor after, and George wins, he’s the biggest MMA fighter of all-time. If Conor wins, he is too and if  George St-Pierre wins, I don’t think people are going to hold it against Conor.

But if he does win his post-fight speech should be very, very interesting to say the least.  This could set up a mega fight between both legends.

First things first though – St-Pierre has to get though the current middleweight champion in Madison Square Garden at UFC 217 before any of this can happen.
